Odds and Ends (Little People, Drawing Comics, Batman)

  1. Having twin boys is a good thing — especially when it comes to buying toys. At twenty months, I am introducing them to the world of DC comics. Here are a few Little People cars (that are available exclusively at Target) that I picked up after work today. I picked up Batman, the Joker, Green Lantern, and Superman. I also saw that they had Wonder Woman and Batgirl as well. Fun times ahead!
  2. I recently was inspired by some artwork that was done and got the itch to start drawing again. I am a complete hack when it comes to drawing, but most of my deficiency is in perspective — which I know can be improved with practice.I picked up two books to help inspire some sketching: How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way and The DC Comics Guide to Pencilling Comics. At first glance, the Marvel guide is superior in clarity and instruction. I’m not sure if I plan on posting any of my sketches on this blog. I am completely in awe of some of the comic book artists out there today.
  3. I was able to catch The Dark Knight Rises opening weekend. It is a fitting conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. I wasn’t a huge fan of Bane as the villain of choice (especially when one compares him to Heath Ledger’s absolutely brilliant portrayal of the Joker), but the last installment tied the three films together rather nicely. Let’s just say I left the theater quite satisfied — the film has good action and I actually liked Catwoman on film for once. I still haven’t read the Batman vs. Bane comic book, but plan to do so in the near future. As for now, I have my sketch pad out with The Dark Knight playing in the background.
